Urban Photo Safari 2008 is right around the corner! (Saturday, May 17th from 9am – 1pm, to be exact.)

Urban Photo Safari is a free event created to encourage you explore KC, get creative with your digital camera and—most of all—have fun (friends, family and non-creatives are welcome, too).

Just Do It South Africa — a fantastic new Nike campaign from W+K Amsterdam. Check their blog for samples of the print work, which features beautiful photography and pitch-perfect copywriting (the real star of the show). Similarly, the TV spot (below) looks stunning, but the VOs and sound design make it sing.

It’s a free event, so if you’re looking for an excuse to get creative with a camera, there’s nothing quite like it.

As one of the few people at work with a dreamy ‘doo, Dean was on a short list of candidates. We’re all glad he was willing to go under the shears in memory of his Dad and in honor of our good friend Scott Bosworth, who made it to the event in just enough time to step up on stage and take the first swipe:

Way to go Dean! Hopefully this will translate into a even bigger turnout next year, then you could retire “The Schwab” and institute “Big Time”.

You can find all of the important details here, but here’s the elevator pitch for the impatient: you’re given four hours and a geographic boundary to shoot as many pics as your memory card can hold. Your 10 favorite pics are posted on the Urban Photo Safari website. Once everyone’s photos are posted, you look them over and vote for the 10 best. The photo that gets the most votes wins.

I’ve done it twice now and I’m hooked. It’s a great way to stretch your creative muscles, meet some cool people and see a lot of great photos.
